Elections?

I guess all Iranians in the world are preoccupied with the issue of ongoing "elections" at the moment.

Yesterday, Iranians voted in the elections for a new president. After eight years of presidency, Mr. Khatami is now done with the office and a new person is going to replace him. The intrigues and issues regarding the matter is well beyond the scope of this weblog, but certainly occupies the minds of its writer.

At the moment, after a controversial election, Hashemi Rafsanjani (the president before Khatami) and an unknown (semi puppet) character called Ahmadinejad are the ones who have had enough votes to be cosidered "tied" and stand for a run-off. This is the first time it has happened, and it has a lot to do with a vast programme for selecting the candidates and trying to discredit the candidate most favoured by a lot of young people inside Iran, Mr. Moin.

Anyway, here are some links to news regarding this matter. I hope to write something else soon.

So, the choices are an internationally convicted terrorist and gazillioner mafia family boss and an executioner who might have the lowest IQ of all Iranians alive today. And how has it come to this? By "reformers'" continunous insistance on osteracizing the Iranian gheire-khodis, or outsiders, exiles or otherwise, thinking that they will stick with this republic and denounce anyone who notices the corruption in it, and won't stand for it, with each and every chance. But the reformists really have no cause to worry, because their number one goal has always been to maintain the fascistic system at any cost, and on that front everything seems to go according to plan; so what that Rafsanjani gets elected, main thing is that it is still called the Islamic Republic, and thank Allah for that. But sooner or later, all the lies and dorugh will catch up with you. Our elders have told us thus. So, go on and celebrate your republic; go on then, go on skating, with Ayatollah Rafsanjani, on the thin ice of modern life... May Her Majesty's government protect you.

The election result reminds me of a recent French presidential election where an ultra-hardliner (Le Penn) and a corrupt (Chirac) made it to the second round because of voter apathy. Pro-left voters wanted to teach the leftist politicans a lesson and stayed away from the polls.

In the second round every group threw its support behind the corrupt and people crawled back to the polling stations to vote for the one who they loathed to avoid a bigger tragedy.

I have been watching the news of the election with great interest. It is very disappointing how things have gone so far. I just read the news at my friend Pantea's blog that two reformist newspapers have been banned for publishing the letter by Karoubi that claimed vote tampering by ultra conservatives. It seems to me that this banning proves that vote tampering did in fact occur! I will keep watching for more news.
