At Last!
I finally finished my big paper about the Sasanian-Byzantine relations and border conflicts in Northern Syria in the sixth century CE. It was becoming the bane of my life, but it is finally done.
You can have a look at it here if you like.

Congratulations on finishing your big paper! I read the first few pages and the conclusion. I think that much of what you have written presupposes a strong background in the general history of the region (its rather beyond my body of knowledge). One thing that caught my eye was when you talked about the Sasanians relocating the Syrian population. Were these skilled and unskilled Syrian laborers treated as slaves or did they voluntarily relocate in return for good wages and a better life?

Thanks David. Yeah, this was for a graduate seminar in Byzantine history, so as you have observed, it does suppose a background in history.
No, the population were moved forcably! They could not chose not to move... However, they were not slaves either. After settling them in these new territories, they became regular, free wage earning citizens.
