To be honest, I haven't really been paying much attention to Somalia in the past few weeks. I really don't have enough information to even begin to comment on the Islamic government of Somalia that has just been evicted from power. However, it is always true that when war comes to a country, its people will suffer greatly. It seems to me that the Islamic government of Sudan is guilty of known mass atrocities and genocide. So, why are they not the focus of regime change? So far, Bush has made all the wrong moves is his stated goal of fighting Al Qaeda terrorism. His policies have only lead to greatly increased recruitment of people willing to blow themselves up. The potential for terrorism has not been diminished, rather it has been greatly expanded! So, it wouldn't surprise me if U.S. backing of the Ethiopians in Somalia will only make things worse.

David: the actual government of Somalia is not the Islamic one. They have a very unpopular and non-Islamic government that has been forced by the people to a town away from Mogadishu. The Islamic Courts group has taken over Mugadishu and has managed to stop the fighting. However, because of their Islamic build-up and connections to the Qaeda, they have been considered a threat by the Coalition and Ethiopia. Ethiopia attacked them last month with the aim of dislodging the Islamic Courts after a quick one day visit of General Abizaid with the Ethiopian generals who promised him that they can get rid of the Islamic courts "in a swift and painless manner".

Khodadad Jan-
Well done with these links, they flow very nicely.
You know it's funny the only place in regular mainstream media that i saw the U.S. attack on somalia critiqued was in new brief on the BET (black entertainment channel). I thought their take and the fact that they bothered focusing on it exclusively was interesting
