Cool Music
Since O-Hum got famous a few years ago, Iranian "rock" music has become better and better. I already am a fan of Kiosk, who I think are one of the best bands in general, and have made many people buy their CD.
Now, while I am busy with my dissertation prospectus, I have looked around the 'net for newer Iranian music (as I find the current pop music scene in the US and Europe quite uninteresting and keep on listening to my old Queen and REM and Pink Floyd CDs!). Among these have been two bands/performers. One is called Abjeez, a funny duo of sisters with a Spanish/Swedish backing band who sing in Persian. The other is Laleh, an Iranian girl raised in Belarus, Germany, and Sweden who sings mostly in Swedish and English, and I have become quite obssessed with some of her songs. From Abjeez, check out "Eddeaa" and its video on their video sectiol. From Laleh, my favourites are "Storebror" (big brother) and Live Tomorrow, again, both in her Video section...

I listened to a sample of Abjeez. I liked the sound! :) I really need a faster internet connection!
Speaking of extraordinary music experiences, I watched Sting this evening singing songs that were composed for the lute by John Dowland in the 1500's! When I studied classical guitar, some of Dowland's music was among my favorite pieces to play! What do you think about the Police doing a new world tour?

Hi Khodadad, I have just written a short post to try and help out an Iraqi friend who is trying to finish her Ph.D. and needs some American subjects to answer some questions. Could you please check out my post and her blog? I would appreciate your help my friend. Thanks!
