Photos and Collective Memories

I usually don't take many pictures from the places I travel. Somehow I get a bit fed-up with groups of tourists taking pics of the same monument and feel a bit embarrassed to do so myself. On the other hand, I also feel it a bit unneccessary to do so, since thousands and probably millions of people have photographed the Pyramids or the Westminster Abbey, what difference does it make if I take another snap or not?

However, watching this video and realising that (as the creator of the software says) "each photgraph can be linked and treated as part of the collective memory", made me change my mind. I will take lots of pictures and put them online from now on! This is wonderful!

Hi Khodadad,

I'm glad you will take lots of pics from now on. :) I couldn't load the video you linked to, but from the written description, I get the general idea. If you have enough pictures from enough different angles, a computer can construct a 3-D digital environment. Someday, we may all be living in a computer generated reality like the Star Trek Holodecks. ;)

Btw, did you ever follow the links to the 3-D interactive views of Choga-Zambil created by the World Heritage Organization that I told you about? They are really awesome! Almost as good as being there! Here is the link to my friend's post about it once again:
