Holidays
Merry Christmas
Happy Chanukah
Happy Yalda
Happy Kwanzaa
I hope everyone out there is safe and sound and happy, particularly if you have snow! I am dead tired of the 80 degree weather of LA. You CAN have too much of a good thing!

The Tehran Disaster
By Jove, this is horrible news! Stupid military plane. I was initially very worried that the "apartment building" might have been the famous Ecbatan complex. I know way too many people who live there. I am not sure where it is, but all in all, it is a horrible disaster, and a stupid one for that, since it could have been easily avoided.

The Leading Cause...
Have you heard of a phrase like "the leading cause of X among Y is Z"? Like the leading cause of death among African-American women is now AIDS? (a painful and sad reminder for yesterday, which was the World AIDS day).
Well, things are not as serious here (thanks to Hauvartat, the god of wholeness and health), but I keep on hearing that the leading cause of abandoning blogs is disillusionment, apparently disillusionment about the thought of making any sort of difference by writing. The thought occured to me to, following my previous post, but then I analyzed myself, and I found the real culprit behind the fact that I am not updating this blog often. Wait for the epiphany: it is, yes you guessed it: LAZYNESS!
I just often don't feel like updating it. I have a lot to say (believe me, I always have SOMEHTING to say), it's just that I often don't feel like typing. Maybe I should try an audio-blog? (I love talking, I mean I LOVE talking!).
On the more serious side, this is the end of the quarter here. I have two classes to grade 100 papers for. I have exams and quizes myself, and I am basically in-too-deep! So, maybe that is contributing as well.
Despite all of this, I still have some time to do good stuff, like reading this wonderful book called Sogdian Merchants: A History, by Etienne de la Vaissiere. It is a translation of the original French which I read before, but I think due to the weakness of my French knowledge, did not quite understand. It's a great book, and for anyone interested to know how ancient and medieval societies outside the boundaries of empires (the so-called "Peripheries") functioned, this book is a must read.
